Delta County was founded in 1870. Delta was created by taking area from Hopkins and Lamar Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Delta had a population of 5,331 people. This is an increase of 1.7% since the last Census (which gave a population of 5,242 people in 2010).
