Cochran County was founded in 1876. Cochran was created by taking area from Bexar and Young Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Cochran had a population of 2,853 people. This is a decrease of 9.34% since the last Census (which gave a population of 3,147 people in 2010).
