Josephine County was founded in 1856 and was created by taking area from JacksonCounty.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Josephine had a population of 81,026 people. This is an increase of 7% since the last Census (which gave a population of 75,726 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Josephine represented 2.21% of the total population of Oregon, making it the state's 12th most populous county (out of 36 counties).
