The community of Hood River is the Seat for Hood River County.

Hood River County was founded in 1908 and was created by taking area from WascoCounty.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Hood River had a population of 21,883 people. This is an increase of 7.21% since the last Census (which gave a population of 20,411 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Hood River represented 0.6% of the total population of Oregon, making it the state's 25th most populous county (out of 36 counties).
