The community of Ottawa is the Seat for Putnam County.

Putnam County was founded April 1, 1820 and was created by taking area from Shelby County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Putnam had a population of 33,861 people. This is a decrease of 1.78% since the last Census (which gave a population of 34,476 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Putnam represented 0.3% of the total population of Ohio.
