The community of Ironton is the Seat for Lawrence County.

Lawrence County was founded December 21, 1815. Lawrence was created by taking area from Gallia and Scioto Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Lawrence had a population of 59,463 people. This is a decrease of 4.74% since the last Census (which gave a population of 62,424 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Lawrence represented 0.54% of the total population of Ohio.
