Mineral County was founded February 10, 1911 and was created by taking area from EsmeraldaCounty.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Mineral had a population of 4,662 people. This is a decrease of 8.07% since the last Census (which gave a population of 5,071 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Mineral represented 0.25% of the total population of Nevada, making it the state's 12th most populous county (out of 17 counties).
