The community of Winnemucca is the Seat for Humboldt County.

Humboldt County is one of the original counties of Nevada and was founded November 25, 1861.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Humboldt had a population of 18,260 people. This is an increase of 13.37% since the last Census (which gave a population of 16,106 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Humboldt represented 0.81% of the total population of Nevada, making it the state's 8th most populous county (out of 17 counties).
