The community of Truth or Consequences is the Seat for Sierra County.

Sierra County was founded in 1884. Sierra was created by taking area from Dona Ana and Socorro Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Sierra had a population of 10,886 people. This is a decrease of 9.19% since the last Census (which gave a population of 11,988 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Sierra represented 0.58% of the total population of New Mexico.
