The community of Mora is the Seat for Mora County.

Mora County was founded in 1859 and was created by taking area from TaosCounty.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Mora had a population of 4,935 people. This is a decrease of 4.73% since the last Census (which gave a population of 5,180 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Mora represented 0.28% of the total population of New Mexico, making it the state's 28th most populous county (out of 33 counties).
