The community of Collins is the Seat for Covington County.

Covington County was founded in 1819. Covington was created by taking area from Lawrence and Wayne Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Covington had a population of 18,562 people. This is a decrease of 5.14% since the last Census (which gave a population of 19,568 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Covington represented 0.66% of the total population of Mississippi.
