Luce County was founded March 1, 1887. Luce was created by taking area from Chippewa and Mackinac Counties. From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Luce had a population of 6,266 people. This is a decrease of 5.5% since the last Census (which gave a population of 6,631 people in 2010). At the time of the 2010 Census, Luce represented 0.07% of the total population of Michigan.
