Spencer County was founded in 1824. Spencer was created by taking area from Nelson, Shelby and Bullitt Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Spencer had a population of 19,351 people. This is an increase of 12.5% since the last Census (which gave a population of 17,201 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Spencer represented 0.4% of the total population of Kentucky.
