Green County was founded in 1792. Green was created by taking area from Lincoln and Nelson Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Green had a population of 10,941 people. This is a decrease of 2.57% since the last Census (which gave a population of 11,230 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Green represented 0.26% of the total population of Kentucky.
