Kiowa County was founded February 26, 1867. Kiowa was created by taking area from Comanche and Edwards Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Kiowa had a population of 2,475 people. This is a decrease of 3.66% since the last Census (which gave a population of 2,569 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Kiowa represented 0.09% of the total population of Kansas.
