Switzerland County was founded October 1, 1814. Switzerland was created by taking area from Dearborn and Jefferson Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Switzerland had a population of 10,751 people. This is an increase of 0.32% since the last Census (which gave a population of 10,717 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Switzerland represented 0.17% of the total population of Indiana.
