Monroe County was founded January 14, 1818 and was created by taking area from Orange County. From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Monroe had a population of 148,178 people. This is an increase of 7.4% since the last Census (which gave a population of 137,974 people in 2010). At the time of the 2010 Census, Monroe represented 2.13% of the total population of Indiana.
