Peoria County was founded in 1825 and was created by taking area from Fulton County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Peoria had a population of 179,359 people. This is a decrease of 3.83% since the last Census (which gave a population of 186,494 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Peoria represented 1.45% of the total population of Illinois.
