The community of Rexburg is the Seat for Madison County.

Madison County was founded in 1913 and was created by taking area from FremontCounty.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Madison had a population of 38,440 people. This is an increase of 39.95% since the last Census (which gave a population of 27,467 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Madison represented 2.12% of the total population of Idaho, making it the state's 12th most populous county (out of 44 counties).
