Latah County was founded in 1888 and was created by taking area from Nez PerceCounty.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Latah had a population of 38,046 people. This is an increase of 8.91% since the last Census (which gave a population of 34,935 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Latah represented 2.7% of the total population of Idaho, making it the state's 10th most populous county (out of 44 counties).
