Elmore County was founded in 1889 and was created by taking area from Alturas County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Elmore had a population of 27,511 people. This is an increase of 1.44% since the last Census (which gave a population of 27,121 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Elmore represented 1.73% of the total population of Idaho.
