Fremont County was founded February 24, 1847 and was created by taking area from Pottawattamie County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Fremont had a population of 6,960 people. This is a decrease of 6.38% since the last Census (which gave a population of 7,434 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Fremont represented 0.24% of the total population of Iowa.
