Honolulu County was founded in 1905.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Honolulu had a population of 907,574 people. This is an increase of 3.59% since the last Census (which gave a population of 876,156 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Honolulu represented 72.32% of the total population of Hawaii, making it the state's most populous county (out of 5 counties).
