White County was founded in 1857 and was created by taking area from HabershamCounty.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> White had a population of 25,294 people. This is an increase of 26.83% since the last Census (which gave a population of 19,944 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, White represented 0.24% of the total population of Georgia, making it the state's 84th most populous county (out of 159 counties).
