Twiggs County was founded in 1809 and was created by taking area from WilkinsonCounty.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Twiggs had a population of 10,111 people. This is a decrease of 4.52% since the last Census (which gave a population of 10,590 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Twiggs represented 0.13% of the total population of Georgia, making it the state's 121st most populous county (out of 159 counties).
