Lumpkin County was founded in 1832. Lumpkin was created by taking area from Cherokee, Habersham and Hall Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Lumpkin had a population of 33,610 people. This is an increase of 10.99% since the last Census (which gave a population of 30,282 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Lumpkin represented 0.31% of the total population of Georgia.
