Hart County was founded in 1853. Hart was created by taking area from Elbert and Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Hart had a population of 24,067 people. This is an increase of 4.65% since the last Census (which gave a population of 22,997 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Hart represented 0.28% of the total population of Georgia, making it the state's 70th most populous county (out of 159 counties).
