Sarasota County was founded May 14, 1921 and was created by taking area from Manatee County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Sarasota had a population of 435,006 people. This is an increase of 14.64% since the last Census (which gave a population of 379,448 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Sarasota represented 2.02% of the total population of Florida.
