Time Zone: Leon County lies in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time.

The community of Tallahassee is the Seat for Leon County. Tallahassee is also the capital of Florida.

Leon County was founded December 29, 1824 and was created by taking area from GadsdenCounty.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Leon had a population of 265,714 people. This is an increase of 10.97% since the last Census (which gave a population of 239,452 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Leon represented 1.5% of the total population of Florida, making it the state's 19th most populous county (out of 67 counties).
