Dixie County was founded April 25, 1921 and was created by taking area from Lafayette County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Dixie had a population of 16,826 people. This is an increase of 2.6% since the last Census (which gave a population of 16,400 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Dixie represented 0.09% of the total population of Florida.
