Commemorative Quarter
for Minnesota (MN)

The Commemorative State Quarter for Minnesota

Coin Issued: April 4, 2005 - the 2nd coin released in 2005

Statehood: May 11, 1858 - the 32nd State

Inscriptions: "Minnesota 1858", "Land of 10,000 Lakes"

Description: The coin depicts a lake with a Common Loon in the foreground. On the left side of the coin is an outline of Minnesota and within that outline is the inscription "Land of 10,000 Lakes". On the right side are two fisherman in a boat. A Pine forest is in the background.

Minnesota's State Bird is the Common Loon.

Minnesota's State Tree is the Red Pine.

At the bottom of the coin is the issue date (2005) and the motto "E Pluribus Unum". The motto is Latin for "Out of Many, One", recognizing that out of the many colonies (or states) emerged a single nation.

Engravers: The Reverse design (the tail or State-side of the Quarter) was created by Charles Vickers (search the coin for the engraver's initials: 'clv').

The original Observe design (the front or Washington-side of the Quarter) was created by John Flanagan and first appeared in 1932. For the 50 State Quarters series, Flanagan's design was modified by William Cousins: the portrait of Washington was slightly reduced to accomodate the moving of the legends from the Reverse to the Obverse.
