The community of Cheyenne Wells is the Seat for Cheyenne County.

Cheyenne County was founded March 25, 1889. Cheyenne was created by taking area from Elbert and Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Cheyenne had a population of 1,746 people. This is a decrease of 21.74% since the last Census (which gave a population of 2,231 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Cheyenne represented 0.05% of the total population of Colorado, making it the state's 57th most populous county (out of 64 counties).
