Tehama County was founded in 1856. Tehama was created by taking area from Butte, Colusa and Shasta Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Tehama had a population of 65,186 people. This is an increase of 2.71% since the last Census (which gave a population of 63,463 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Tehama represented 0.17% of the total population of California.
