At the time of the 2010 Census, Jefferson had a population of 7,973 people (or 9.53% of the total population of Jefferson County). This makes Jefferson the county's 3rd most populous community.

The population of Jefferson represents 0.14% of the total population of Wisconsin (which has 5,686,986 people), making it the state's 117th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 7,973 people, the population of Jefferson increased 8.65% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 7,338 people).
