Fayette County was founded December 14, 1837. Fayette was created by taking area from Bastrop and Colorado Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Fayette had a population of 25,308 people. This is an increase of 3.07% since the last Census (which gave a population of 24,554 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Fayette represented 0.1% of the total population of Texas.
