Welcome to Travere ...

So far, we found very little information about Travere. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Travere to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Travere - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Travere, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Travere , we believe that it would have been located within present day Roberts County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Travere, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was in a book dated 1895.

From the 2010 Census (the most recent Census number we have), Travere had a population of 20 people.<3> (see below for details).

Time Zone: The area where Travere was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

Travere would have been located in the (605) area code.

Adding Travere to Our Gazetteer ...

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Travere was in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Travere, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of South Dakota's counties, including Roberts, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
<3>Population counts have been provided by the U.S. Census Bureau. For more detail, please visit our Census Page for Travere.
