So far, we found very little information about Tinton. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

Tinton would have been located within present day Lawrence County<2>.



While we don't have a date for the founding of Tinton, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1903.

From the 2010 Census (the most recent Census number we have), Tinton had a population of 443 people.<3> (see below for details).

While the community is gone, the present day location for Tinton is 5,960 feet [1,817 m] above sea level.<4> In other words, the elevation of Tinton is about 1¼ mile [or ~1¾ km] above sea level.

Time Zone: The area where Tinton was located is in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time

If Tinton still existed, it would have been in the (605) area code.

We originally found mention of Tinton in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Tinton was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Tinton post office opened in 1903.
