Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Presho had an population of 490 people. This is a decrease of 1.41% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 16.67% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Presho had a population of 497 people (which is 13.24% of the total population of Lyman County). This makes Presho the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Presho represents 0.06% of the population of South Dakota (which has 814,180 people), making it the state's 153rd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 497 people, the population of Presho decreased 15.48% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 588 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Presho was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Presho post office opened in 1891.

We also found Presho in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
