The Commemorative Quarter for Ohio

Welcome to Kirk ...

So far, we found very little information about Kirk. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Kirk to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Kirk - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Kirk, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Kirk , we believe that it would have been located within present day Mahoning County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Kirk, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1896.

Time Zone: The area where Kirk was located is in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time

If Kirk still existed, it would have been in the (330) & (234)<3> area codes.

Communities Also Named Kirk ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are two Ohio communities named Kirk: This one is located in Mahoning County and the other is located in Trumbull County.

Beyond Ohio, there are 24 communities that are also named Kirk - they are located in Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado (2), Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan (3), Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Ontario, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas (2) and West Virginia.

Adding Kirk to Our Gazetteer ...

We originally found mention of Kirk in the GNIS. For more information, see the Referenced GNIS Codes section on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Kirk was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<4>

From that list, the Kirk post office opened in 1896.

We also found Kirk on a map titled George#&160;F. Cram Map (1901).

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Kirk, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Ohio's counties, including Mahoning, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
<3>Area code (234) is an overlay for area code (330).
