The Commemorative Quarter for Ohio

Welcome to Hamer ...

So far, we found very little information about Hamer. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Hamer to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Hamer - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Hamer, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Hamer , we believe that it would have been located within present day Paulding County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Hamer, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1857.

Time Zone: The area where Hamer was located is in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time

If Hamer still existed, it would have been in the (419) & (567)<3> area codes.

Communities Also Named Hamer ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are two Ohio communities named Hamer: This one is located in Paulding County and the other is located in Williams County.

Beyond Ohio, there are 5 communities that are also named Hamer - they are located in Georgia, Idaho, North Carolina and South Carolina.

For more information, see our Tidbits & Trivia Page for Hamer.

Adding Hamer to Our Gazetteer ...

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Hamer was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<4>

From that list, the Hamer post office opened in 1857.

We also found Hamer in the book titled List of Post Offices in the United States (1870).

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Hamer, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Ohio's counties, including Paulding, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
<3>Area code (567) is an overlay for area code (419).
