Welcome to Genoa ...

So far, we found very little information about Genoa. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Genoa to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Genoa - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Genoa, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Genoa , we believe that it would have been located within present day Delaware County<2>.

The pronunciation of Genoa: jeh-NO-ah<3>

While we don't have a date for the founding of Genoa, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1819.

Time Zone: The area where Genoa was located is in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time

Genoa would have been located in the (740) area code.

Communities Also Named Genoa ...

While we believe that this Genoa is located in Delaware County, we know of another 2 Ohio communities named Genoa. Those communities are located in the following counties: Ottawa and Stark County.

Beyond Ohio, there are 21 communities that are also named Genoa - they are located in Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota (2), Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Adding Genoa to Our Gazetteer ...

We originally found mention of Genoa in the GNIS. For more information, see the Referenced GNIS Codes section on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Genoa was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<4>

From that list, the Genoa post office opened in 1819.

We also found Genoa in the book titled U.S. Post Offices (Oct. 1846).

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Genoa, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Ohio's counties, including Delaware, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
<3>The pronunciation we've provided is our attempt to give a phonetic pronunciation for Genoa. While it might not be exactly right, hopefully it will be close. If we have it wrong or there's a better way to pronounce the name, please contact us through our Feedback Page.
