Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Homer had an population of 3,097 people. This is a decrease of 5.89% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 8.05% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Homer had a population of 3,291 people (or 6.67% of the total population of Cortland County). This makes Homer the county's 4th most populous community.

The population of Homer represents 0.02% of the population of New York (which has 19,378,102 people), making it the state's 658th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 3,291 people, the population of Homer decreased 2.29% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 3,368 people).

We originally found mention of Homer in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Homer was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Homer post office opened in 1807.

We also found Homer in the book titled U.S. Post Offices (Oct. 1846).
