The Commemorative Quarter for Nevada

Welcome to Etna ...

So far, we found very little information about Etna. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Etna to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Etna - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Etna, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Etna , we believe that it would have been located within present day Pershing County<2>.

Etna was founded in 1866.

Time Zone: The area where Etna was located is in the Pacific Time Zone (PST/PDT) and observes daylight saving time

Communities Also Named Etna ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are two Nevada communities named Etna: This one is located in Pershing County and the other is located in Lincoln County.

Beyond Nevada, there are 30 communities that are also named Etna - they are located in Arkansas, California, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana (2), Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio (2), Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee (2), Texas, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

Adding Etna to Our Gazetteer ...

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Etna was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<3>

From that list, the Etna post office opened in 1866.

We also found Etna mentioned on a train schedule titled Union Pacific Railroad Time Tables (September 1924).

For more details, see References and Mentions for Etna.

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Etna, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Nevada's counties, including Pershing, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
