Alamogordo is located in Otero County and is the County Seat for Otero County.

From the  Census Estimates for 2015, Alamogordo has a population of 30,753 people<1> (see below for details).

The community of Alamogordo was established in 1898.

Alamogordo is 4,310 feet [1,314 m] above sea level.<2> In other words, the altitude of Alamogordo is about ¾ mile [or ~1¼ km] above sea level.

Time Zone: Alamogordo lies in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time

Alamogordo is within the boundaries of the (575) area code.

At the time of the 2010 Census, Alamogordo had a population of 30,403 people (which is 47.66% of the total population of Otero County). This makes Alamogordo the county's most populous community.

The population of Alamogordo represents 1.48% of the population of New Mexico (which has 2,059,179 people), making it the state's 9th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 30,403 people, the population of Alamogordo decreased 14.56% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 35,582 people).

Taken from the 2015 Census Estimates, Alamogordo had an population of 30,753 people. This is an increase of 1.15% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 13.57% since the 2000 Census).
