Around Mineral Springs ...

Although we found mention of Mineral Springs during our research, we have little information about it.<1> Given the context of how Mineral Springs was mentioned, we believe that it was a community rather than some type of landmark. We have done a cursory search and if it's a community, we haven't been able to find any evidence that it still exists.

The largest community within a 50 mile [80 km] radius is Charlotte. It is located about 38 miles [61 km] to the northwest of Mineral Springs. Charlotte has a population of 810,000 people.<2>

The next largest community is Concord. It is located about 38 miles [61 km] to the northwest of Mineral Springs and has a population of 85,600 people.

The following large communities are also in the area. Keep in mind that when we give a distance, it's a 'straight-line' distance starting from Mineral Springs and not the distance if you are driving it.<3>

Footnotes ...

<1>If we encounter the name of what might be a community, our methodology is to add that name to our Gazetteer. For example, we might find a sentence like "He went south past Mineral Springs and then turned west". While Mineral Springs could be some kind of landmark, we think that it's more likely to be a community. We've added Mineral Springs as a placeholder with the hope that we'll be able to add more information in the future.

Just as a reminder: Our definition of a community is rather broad and includes those places where several families lived and had a name which identified that place. The community might still exist or it might have existed for just a short period of time. Places of interest include buildings at a crossroad, families in a hollow or maybe the location of a way station. It also includes places like mines, lumber camps, ferry crossings, etc.

Also keep in mind that Mineral Springs could have been on the original document by mistake, misspelled, the original/alternate name of a community that we've listed elsewhere or was placed in the wrong county. Sometimes a post office or train station would have a different name than the community where it's located, so two names might be referring to the same community.

Just in case there has been confusion between counties, we found that there are two North Carolina communities named Mineral Springs: This one is located in Anson County and the other is located in Union County. For more information, see our Tidbits & Trivia Page for Mineral Springs.

<3>Our distances are not driving distances, but are calculated as a 'straight-line' distance that stretches from Mineral Springs. A straight line distance ignores obstructions like rivers, canyons, lakes, et cetera - it's truly a line drawn from Point A (ie- Mineral Springs) to Point B.

If you need the driving distance, we recommend that you use one of the Mapping Services listed on our Map Page for Mineral Springs. Since we usually use Google Maps for our own planning, we've provided the following link for your convenience: Google Map and Driving Directions starting from Mineral Springs

Our distance measurements begin at a specific point in Mineral Springs. The point that we are using is located at these GPS coordinates - Latitude: 34.9440, Longitude: -80.2412     [Map]. The coordinates for Mineral Springs have been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS).

<5>The IATA and ICAO are organizations that, amongst other functions, provide identifying codes for airports. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is an airline trade organization. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is an agency of the United Nations. Although the codes are similar, be careful not to confuse them.

<6>On an airport-by-airport basis, an NFDC report typically includes a description of airport operations, contacts, the runway(s), and radio, navigation & weather frequencies. The National Flight Data Center (NFDC) is operated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) with the purpose of collecting, validating and disseminating information about airports.

<7>When we are planning a trip (for example, to Mineral Springs), we usually look for the obvious: the choice of airlines that fly into the airport, the number of flights, the connections we have to make, which car rentals are available, etc. We also look for sights and attractions that we might find between any given airport and our destination - we do love exploring. We're willing to fly into a more distant airport if we can get the services and amenities that we like. Even though our choice of airport might be inconvenient to others, it usually gives us a better trip.
