Welcome to Sahara ...So far, we found very little information about Sahara. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1> We've added Sahara to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. The location of Sahara has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<3> While we don't have a date for the founding of Sahara, you might consider that their post office opened in 1930. While the community is gone, the present day location for Sahara is 5,630 feet [1,716 m] above sea level.<4> In other words, the elevation of Sahara is about 1 mile [or ~1¾ km] above sea level. Time Zone: The area where Sahara was located is in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time If Sahara still existed, it would have been in the (406) area code.
