Calhoun County was founded in 1852. Calhoun was created by taking area from Chickasaw, Lafayette and Yalobusha Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Calhoun had a population of 14,365 people. This is a decrease of 3.99% since the last Census (which gave a population of 14,962 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Calhoun represented 0.5% of the total population of Mississippi.
