Welcome to Iona ...

So far, we found very little information about Iona. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Iona to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Iona - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Iona, please Contact Us.


While we don't have the exact location of Iona , we believe that it would have been located within present day Cape Girardeau County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Iona, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1870.

Time Zone: The area where Iona was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

Iona would have been located in the (573) area code.

Communities Also Named Iona ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are two Missouri communities named Iona: This one is located in Cape Girardeau County and the other is located in Worth County.

Beyond Missouri, there are 18 communities that are also named Iona - they are located in Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Minnesota, Montana, New Jersey, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ohio, Oklahoma, Ontario, Pennsylvania, Prince Edward Island, South Dakota, Texas (2) and Washington.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Iona was in the book titled List of Post Offices in the United States (1870).

We also found Iona in the book titled .<3> From that list, the Iona post office opened in 1877.
