Welcome to New Prairie ...

So far, we found very little information about New Prairie. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

New Prairie would have been located within present day Pope County<2>.



While we don't have a date for the founding of New Prairie, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1872.

Adding New Prairie to Our Gazetteer ...

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned New Prairie was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<5>

From that list, the New Prairie post office opened in 1872.
