Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Mankato had an population of 43,175 people. This is an increase of 9.83% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 33.15% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Mankato had a population of 39,309 people (or 61.41% of the total population of Blue Earth County). This makes Mankato the county's most populous community.

The population of Mankato represents 0.74% of the total population of Minnesota (which has 5,303,925 people), making it the state's 21st most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 39,309 people, the population of Mankato increased 21.22% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 32,427 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Mankato was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Mankato post office opened in 1853.
